Making Perfectly Spicy tequila and the world a better place.

Sustainability From Agave to Bottle

At Ghost Tequila, sustainability is fundamental to how we go to market from agave to bottle. We chose to work with Casa Coloramor Distillery to make Ghost Tequila based on their ability to make high quality tequila, and their commitment to sustainable agriculture and production techniques.

70% of the electric energy at the distillery is generated through solar panels, reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources and supporting a cleaner future.

Agave fibers are turned into compost and energy that greatly reduces reliance on fossil fuels, in turn significantly reducing our emissions. The residues from the biomass boiler are then converted into ashes, which are repurposed to further enhance soil health.

Through the use of modern techniques and process we use significantly less water than industry norms and employ advanced water treatment process that recycle water for additional uses and treat wastewater so that is not harmful to local ecosystems. Each step in this process is a reflection of our unwavering dedication to minimizing environmental impact and ensuring long-term sustainability for Ghost Tequila and the land we cultivate.

Ghost Tequila Agave Compost for sustainability

The Agave

Casa Coloramour was founded by Agave famers with a deep love for the plant and its agricultural lands. They have generational knowledge and expertise in sustainable agriculture practices that go into growing the agave for Ghost Tequila. An agronomic management team ensures long-term fertility of the land through innovative techniques. Agave fields are surrounded by diverse companion crops, including beans, avocado, corn, and lemons, which enhance the soil’s nutrient value and promote biodiversity.

Crop rotation is strategically implemented between growing cycles to prevent soil degradation and maintain its health for future use. To minimize environmental impact, we prioritize natural methods such as manual weed control, significantly reducing reliance on pesticides.

Additionally, the brand embraces a circular approach to resource management by repurposing waste from the tequila-making process. Bagasse, the agave fibers, and vinasses, a byproduct of fermentation, are composted and transformed into bio-nutrients, which are returned to the soil to enrich it. That same agave bagasse waste also fuels our Biomass boiler, turning it into clean energy and cutting down on waste. Even the ashes don’t go to waste—they’re repurposed into organic and mineral-rich resources to nourish our agave fields. It’s all part of our commitment to a more sustainable process.

These practices not only reflect our dedication to crafting exceptional spirits but also highlight its role as a leader in environmental conservation within the tequila industry.

Water is not only a key ingredient in tequila production but also a resource that demands careful and responsible management. At Ghost Tequila we take pride in utilizing significantly less water than traditional methods—approximately 15 liters per liter of tequila compared to the industry average of 22 liters. This reduction, achieved through optimized processes, reflects our dedication to sustainable production practices.

The water sourcing and treatment processes are designed with sustainability in mind. The on-site well, which reaches a depth of 280 meters, provides high-quality water that undergoes a thorough filtration process to remove impurities. Its quality is further enhanced with an advanced reverse osmosis system, ensuring a neutral water profile that contributes to the exceptional purity and consistency of Ghost Tequila.

Beyond production, every drop of water is utilized.  The water treatment plant recycles water for secondary uses, such as garden irrigation and sanitary functions in restrooms. This circular approach minimizes waste and reduces the environmental footprint, contributing positively to the local ecosystem.
